9,496 emergency food parcels provided to people facing hunger by Wrexham Foodbank in the past 12 months

24th March 2026

Alarmingly more than 32% of the parcels were provided for families with children in the last year· This comes as new annual figures from Trussell show that over 154, 000 emergency food parcels were provided across Wales.

Over 9,490 emergency food parcels were provided to people facing hardship between 1 January 2025 and 31 December 2025, with 2,985 of these provided for children, according to new figures for the End of Year Stats.

Our Foodbank has seen a 9% slight decrease in the number of emergency food parcels distributed compared to 2024. Despite this slight decrease, Wrexham has seen alarmingly high levels of food bank need in recent years, with a sharp 74% rise compared with pre-pandemic levels in 2019,

The Strategic Development Manager at Wrexham Foodbank said:

Wrexham Foodbank is working hard to support everyone who comes to us, but we are continuing to experience significant pressure. People are being forced into crisis because they can’t keep up with soaring living costs, are overwhelmed by debt, or are living with long‑term health conditions that place additional strain on household budgets.

We’re doing everything we can to meet the need, but this means spending more on food than ever before. We rely heavily on generous donations and the funding we can secure. Both of which are becoming harder to sustain. Extra help with fundraising or food collections to help cover food costs and allow us to invest more in the support that helps people build stability.

Wrexham Foodbank is part of the Trussell community of food banks, which has highlighted the deep scars that the pandemic and cost of living crisis have left on living standards, with food bank use across the UK still 45% higher than 2019. Families with children continue to be among the hardest hit, receiving 62% of parcels in 2025 despite these families making up just 42% of the UK population.

Our Foodbank believes everybody should have enough money in their pockets to put food on the table and is calling on the community to play their part to help end the need for emergency food in Wrexham and the UK. Until then, the public can help make sure our Foodbank continues to provide warm, compassionate, practical support and advice in the year ahead by donating food or funds via visiting out Give Help page.

Helen Barnard, director of policy and research at Trussell, said:

“We are still seeing far too many people across Wales being forced to turn to food banks for support, including children, families, disabled people, working people and older people.

“It isn’t right that so many people in Wales are still trapped in severe hardship and left without the support they need to live with dignity. No one should be left – sitting in the dark to save on electricity or skipping meals so their children can eat.

“Every day, staff and volunteers at food banks do an incredible job of supporting people facing hunger – but the truth is that food banks shouldn’t need to exist in the first place. We know the solutions to ending the need for food banks. That’s why the government must acknowledge the challenges facing people from AREA and commit to delivering meaningful, lasting change so that everyone can afford the essentials and we can end the need for food banks for good.”
